This week we took a break from the office and visited the immensely popular Hair exhibition by Sam Mcknight. Hosted by Somerset House, this creative and innovative exhibition pays tribute to the outstanding work of Hair Stylist, Sam Mcknight and acts as a timeline to point out his amazing artistry and achievements throughout his career.
The exhibition starts with a series of behind the scenes setups that mimic the atmosphere backstage at catwalk shows. Products and tools are splayed across desks partnered with live footage of Sam Mcknight working on models past and present. As the exhibition progresses, it is structured like chapters – marking the strong relationships he has sustained in the industry with models and designers alongside the stories behind them.
A stand out part was the ‘Chanel’ segment of the exhibition. The room was dressed all in baby pink and models were sporting some of the most infamous of Sam’s hair creations – the ginger ponytail with the centre bow is simply iconic!
The exhibition also reminds you of Sam’s long-lasting career within the fashion industry and his relationship with Vogue. All of his 44 covers are on display and it is great to see Sam’s versatility and creativity on show.
As you exit the exhibition you are brought to a pop-up shop that stocks an array of fashion and beauty bibles as well as some iconic hairbrushes. BeautyMART also has a concession stand within the pop-up shop, which is a nod to contemporary innovation and edited beauty. It happens to feature one of our personal faves, the Emma Hardie Moringa Balm.
It really was a wonderful experience and we would urge you to make a visit – especially if you’re in need of some inspiration!
